Compare Length
An engaging EYFS comparing length activity helping children compare objects using the words longer and shorter. Children can compare two or three objects, order them by length, or cut and stick images in the correct order.
Description
Support children’s early measurement and comparison skills with this engaging Comparing Length Activity. Designed for EYFS and early years maths, this resource gives children opportunities to compare objects by their length and develop their understanding of mathematical vocabulary such as longer and shorter.
The resource can be laminated and cut into sections, allowing children to work with two or three matching cards at a time. Children can compare the length of the objects and answer questions such as “Which is longer?” and “Which is shorter?” They can also extend their learning by ordering all three objects according to their length.
Alternatively, children can be given a complete set of images to cut out and arrange in order of length, before sticking them down. This hands-on activity provides an opportunity for children to demonstrate their understanding of comparing and ordering objects by length.
This versatile resource is ideal for EYFS maths, early years measurement, focus groups, small group activities, independent learning and assessment opportunities. It can be used to introduce or reinforce the language of length while helping practitioners assess children’s developing understanding of comparing and ordering objects.
