Description
Support children’s early measurement and comparison skills with these practical Comparing Weight Cards. Designed for EYFS and early years maths, the cards provide a hands-on way for children to explore weight by comparing familiar classroom objects using balance scales.
Simply laminate and cut out the cards, then provide children with a set of balance scales and everyday classroom objects such as a dice, scissors, glue stick, building bricks, plastic figure, pencil, crayon and paintbrush. Children can weigh the objects shown on the cards and compare them to find out which object is heavier.
Children can use a whiteboard pen to circle the heaviest object, providing a simple way to record their findings and demonstrate their understanding. The activity also encourages children to use important mathematical vocabulary such as heavier, lighter and heaviest.

They can be used alongside hands-on exploration with balance scales to help children develop confidence when comparing the weight of familiar objects.
