Description

Pupils must understand one-hundreth in terms of regrouping and exchanging.

Dienes can be used to illustrate the relative size of 1 and one-hundreth, with a ‘flat’ representing 1.

Pupils should experience:

  • how 100 hundredths can be regrouped into 1 one.
  • how to exchange 1 one for 100 hundredths.

Language focus “100 hundreths is equal to 1 one.”

Pupils must then be able to work out how many hundreths there are in other multiples of 0.01

Language focus “18 hundredths is equal to 0 ones and 18 hundredths, and is written as 0.18.”
