Description

Celebrate Lunar New Year while developing money skills with this fun and engaging Year 2 maths resource! In 2027, Lunar New Year celebrates the Year of the Goat, providing a great opportunity to bring a seasonal and cultural theme into your maths learning.

In this activity, children are asked to use their knowledge of money and coin values to count the money in a series of lucky envelopes. They will need to recognise the coins, work out their individual values and combine them to find the total amount in each envelope.

This provides an enjoyable way for children to practise their money skills and apply their mathematical knowledge independently. The Lunar New Year theme adds an engaging context to the activity and makes it ideal for use during a Lunar New Year topic.

This resource is quick and easy to use and would make a great homework activity, early finisher task, independent maths activity or lesson consolidation task.

Perfect for Year 2 children to:

Recognise and identify different coins.
Recall the value of different coins.
Count and combine amounts of money.
Apply their knowledge of money independently.
Develop confidence when working with coins.
Explore maths through a Lunar New Year themed activity.

A fun, low-preparation resource for adding a Lunar New Year theme to your Year 2 maths provision while giving children valuable opportunities to practise counting money!
