Description
This Year 1 Transition “Pieces of Me” Puzzle is a meaningful and engaging activity designed to support children as they move into a new class or year group. It encourages pupils to reflect on themselves and share key information in a simple, child-friendly format.
Using a jigsaw-style template, children complete puzzle pieces with prompts such as their favourites, family, interests and strengths. They can respond through drawing, writing, or a combination of both, making this resource highly accessible and adaptable for a range of abilities.
The activity is carefully differentiated with three versions (6, 9 and 12 pieces), allowing you to tailor the level of challenge:
Fewer pieces for younger learners or those needing a reduced cognitive load
More pieces to promote deeper thinking, speaking and language development
This resource is ideal for supporting transition into Year 1 or between classes, helping teachers to get to know their pupils while giving children a chance to express themselves in a relaxed and creative way.
