Description

Make Remembrance-themed learning fun with this simple and engaging Year 1 codebreaker activity. Using symbols, pictures and letters, this resource encourages children to use their early reading and writing skills to decode a simple hidden phrase.

Children are encouraged to look carefully at each picture or symbol and identify the corresponding letter needed to complete the code. They can then write the correct letters underneath the pictures in the tables. Once they have decoded all of the symbols, children can use their reading skills to work out the hidden message.

This Remembrance Day codebreaker for Year 1 is a fun way to practise letter recognition, reading and letter formation while incorporating a Remembrance theme. It can be used as an independent activity, a small-group task, a literacy challenge or as part of a wider Remembrance Day lesson.
