Description

Support children in developing their early mathematical understanding with these practical EYFS repeating patterns worksheets. Designed to support children to continue and copy repeating patterns, this cut-and-stick activity provides an engaging way for children to recognise sequences, identify what comes next and complete simple patterns.

Children are asked to carefully look at each repeating pattern before cutting out the pictures at the bottom of the worksheet. They can then choose the correct pictures and stick them into the empty spaces to complete each sequence.

The resource includes two differentiated worksheets, making it easy to provide an appropriate level of challenge for different children.

Worksheet 1 focuses on simple ABAB repeating patterns, providing an accessible introduction to recognising and continuing repeating sequences.
Worksheet 2 provides additional challenge with a mixture of ABAB, ABC and AAB repeating patterns, encouraging children to apply their pattern-recognition skills to different sequences.

This EYFS maths pattern activity combines early mathematical learning with cutting and sticking, helping children develop their understanding of repeating patterns while also supporting fine motor skills.

The worksheets can be used as an independent activity, small-group task, maths challenge or as part of continuous provision.

Skills supported include:

Recognising repeating patterns
Copying repeating patterns
Continuing repeating patterns
Identifying sequences
Exploring ABAB, ABC and AAB patterns
Problem-solving
Developing early mathematical thinking
Cutting and sticking skills
Fine motor development

The differentiated format makes this resource particularly useful for EYFS children working at different stages of their understanding of repeating patterns.

Can the children spot the repeating sequence, choose the correct pictures and stick them in the right places to complete each pattern?
