Spotlight Y1 Draw 1 more
Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time
Help pupils develop a secure understanding of finding 1 more by focusing on one skill at a time. These differentiated sheets provide focused practice drawing one more counter in a ten frame, supporting pupils to move from ordered counters and a number track to working from words and symbols with increasing independence. Ideal for targeted intervention, same-day catch-up and pupils who benefit from focused practice before moving on to mixed questions.
Description
Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time
Within a single small step, pupils often meet a range of question types. For many children this provides valuable challenge. For others, moving between question types can make it harder to secure the underlying concept.
Spotlight Sheets address this by isolating one question type at a time. Pupils can practise it with focus, develop fluency and build confidence before moving on to mixed questions. They are well suited to targeted intervention, same-day catch-up, or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach.
Differentiated in three ways
- Sheet 1: Supported: Each ten frame already shows the starting number, filled in order, and a 0–10 number track is provided. Pupils draw one more counter.
- Sheet 2: Core: Each ten frame shows the starting number, but the counters are not in order and some numbers are written as words. Pupils count carefully, then draw one more counter.
- Sheet 3: Extended: Pupils use a symbol key to find the starting number, which may involve adding, subtracting or doubling, then show 1 more in an empty ten frame.
