Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time

Help pupils develop confidence with counting in tens and ones using familiar, practical representations. These differentiated sheets use straws, bread rolls and counters to help pupils identify groups of 10, count tens and ones, and apply their understanding to doubling. Ideal for targeted intervention, same-day catch-up and pupils who benefit from focused practice.

Description

Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time

Within a single small step, pupils often meet a range of question types. For many children this provides valuable challenge. For others, moving between question types can make it harder to secure the underlying concept.

Spotlight Sheets address this by isolating one question type at a time. Pupils can practise it with focus, develop fluency and build confidence before moving on to mixed questions. They are well suited to targeted intervention, same-day catch-up, or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach.

Differentiated in three ways

  • Sheet 1: Supported: Straws, bread rolls and counters are set out in neat groups of 10, and a tens number track is provided.
  • Sheet 2: Core: The groups of 10 are spread out and the numbers are larger, so pupils must find each ten carefully.
  • Sheet 3: Extended: Pupils count the groups of 10 and ones, then work out how many there would be if the amount was doubled.
