Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time

Help pupils develop a secure understanding of grouping into tens and counting in tens and ones. Description

Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time

Within a single small step, pupils often meet a range of question types. For many children this provides valuable challenge. For others, moving between question types can make it harder to secure the underlying concept.

Spotlight Sheets address this by isolating one question type at a time. Pupils can practise it with focus, develop fluency and build confidence before moving on to mixed questions. They are well suited to targeted intervention, same-day catch-up, or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach.

Differentiated in three ways

  • Sheet 1: Supported: The pencils are already bundled into tens, and a tens number track is provided to help pupils count in tens.
  • Sheet 2: Core: The pencils are scattered. Pupils circle groups of 10 themselves, then count the tens and ones.
  • Sheet 3: Extended: The pencils are scattered and pupils work out how many there would be if the amount was doubled.
