Spotlight Yr2 Partition numbers to 100 Tens and ones sentences
Secure Year 2 pupils’ place value knowledge with this focused Spotlight pack. Every question practises one skill: completing sentences such as “76 has __ tens and __ ones” or “__ has 5 tens and 2 ones”.
Differentiated in three ways:
- Sheet 1: Supported: Tens are always given before ones, with a tens number track.
- Sheet 2: Core: Includes a zero and a sentence that gives the ones first.
- Sheet 3: Extended: Ones first and more than 9 ones, so pupils read carefully and regroup.
Spotlight Sheets focus on one question type at a time, so pupils can practise with confidence before moving on to mixed questions. Ideal for targeted intervention, same-day catch-up or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach. Answers are included for every sheet.
Description
Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time
Within a single small step, pupils often meet a range of question types. For many children this provides valuable challenge. For others, moving between question types can make it harder to secure the underlying concept.
Spotlight Sheets address this by isolating one question type at a time. Pupils can practise it with focus, develop fluency and build confidence before moving on to mixed questions. They are well suited to targeted intervention, same-day catch-up, or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach.
Differentiated in three ways
- Sheet 1: Supported: Each sentence gives tens before ones, and a tens number track is provided.
- Sheet 2: Core: The numbers include a zero and one sentence gives the ones first.
- Sheet 3: Extended: Sentences give the ones first or use more than 9 ones, so pupils must read carefully and regroup.
