Spotlight Yr2 Place value chart Complete the chart
Strengthen Year 2 pupils’ understanding of tens and ones with this focused Spotlight pack. Every question practises one skill: reading a tens and ones sentence, completing the place value chart and writing the number.
Differentiated in three ways:
- Sheet 1: Supported: Tens are given first, with a tens number track.
- Sheet 2: Core: Ones given first, numbers in words and a zero.
- Sheet 3: Extended: Make tens from the ones, such as 17 ones and 14 ones.
Spotlight Sheets focus on one question type at a time, so pupils can practise with confidence before moving on to mixed questions. Ideal for targeted intervention, same-day catch-up or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach. Answers are included for every sheet.
Description
Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time
Within a single small step, pupils often meet a range of question types. For many children this provides valuable challenge. For others, moving between question types can make it harder to secure the underlying concept.
Spotlight Sheets address this by isolating one question type at a time. Pupils can practise it with focus, develop fluency and build confidence before moving on to mixed questions. They are well suited to targeted intervention, same-day catch-up, or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach.
Differentiated in three ways
- Sheet 1: Supported: Pupils read how many tens and ones there are, then complete the place value chart and the number.
- Sheet 2: Core: Some sentences give the ones first or use words, and one has no ones.
- Sheet 3: Extended: Pupils make tens from the ones, such as 17 ones and 14 ones, before completing the chart.
