Help Year 2 pupils understand what each digit is worth with this focused Spotlight pack. Every question practises one skill: reading the digits in a tens and ones place value chart, completing the sentences and writing the number.
Differentiated in three ways:
- Sheet 1: Supported: Clear numerals with a tens number track.
- Sheet 2: Core: Includes zero as a place holder.
- Sheet 3: Extended: Add base 10 to the chart, sometimes making a new ten.

Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time
Within a single small step, pupils often meet a range of question types. For many children this provides valuable challenge. For others, moving between question types can make it harder to secure the underlying concept.
Spotlight Sheets address this by isolating one question type at a time. Pupils can practise it with focus, develop fluency and build confidence before moving on to mixed questions. They are well suited to targeted intervention, same-day catch-up, or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach.
Differentiated in three ways
- Sheet 1: Supported: Pupils read the numerals in each place value chart and complete the sentences. A tens number track is provided.
- Sheet 2: Core: Some charts include a zero, so pupils must think carefully about each place.
- Sheet 3: Extended: Pupils add the base 10 shown to the number in the chart, sometimes making a new ten, to find the total.
