Spotlight Yr2 Tens and ones Base 10

Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time

Help pupils build confidence with representing two-digit numbers using tens and ones. These differentiated sheets provide focused practice identifying tens and ones, recognising numbers when the representations appear in different orders, and combining tens and ones to find a number. Ideal for targeted intervention, same-day catch-up and pupils who benefit from focused practice.

Description

Spotlight Sheets: focused practice, one question type at a time

Within a single small step, pupils often meet a range of question types. For many children this provides valuable challenge. For others, moving between question types can make it harder to secure the underlying concept.

Spotlight Sheets address this by isolating one question type at a time. Pupils can practise it with focus, develop fluency and build confidence before moving on to mixed questions. They are well suited to targeted intervention, same-day catch-up, or any pupil who benefits from a more focused approach.

Differentiated in three ways

  • Sheet 1: Supported: The tens are lined up with the ones beside them, and a tens number track is provided.
  • Sheet 2: Core: The ones come before the tens, and one question has no ones, so pupils must think carefully.
  • Sheet 3: Extended: The tens are shown with a × sign, such as × 2. Pupils work out the tens, add the ones and find the number.
