Year 1 New Year Spelling

Description

Support children’s developing spelling and phonics skills with this engaging New Year themed Year 1 spelling worksheet. Designed specifically for Year 1 learners, this activity provides an opportunity for children to practise using their Phase 5 phonics knowledge and alternative graphemes to spell words linked to a New Year theme.

The worksheet encourages children to apply their understanding of different graphemes that can represent the same sound. This provides valuable practice with alternative spellings and graphemes, helping children develop confidence when spelling words using their developing phonics knowledge.

The New Year theme makes this a fun and engaging activity for the start of a new term and can be easily incorporated into a range of classroom routines. It works particularly well as part of a Year 1 spelling or phonics lesson, giving children an opportunity to apply their learning independently.

The worksheet can also be used as an early-finisher activity or sent home as a homework task, providing additional opportunities for children to practise their spelling outside of the main phonics lesson.
