Help children develop their spelling, proofreading and editing skills with this engaging New Year themed spelling corrections activity. Designed to provide purposeful practice with statutory spellings, this resource challenges children to identify and correct spelling mistakes within a short piece of New Year themed writing.

Children are presented with a themed piece of writing containing 10 spelling mistakes. Their task is to carefully read the text, identify the incorrect spellings and write the correct versions. This encourages children to look closely at individual words and develop the important skill of recognising when a word has been spelled incorrectly.

All 10 spelling mistakes are taken from the Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling list, making this a useful way for pupils to practise statutory spellings in context. Rather than simply learning words in isolation, children are encouraged to apply their spelling knowledge while reading and proofreading a piece of writing.

The activity also provides an opportunity to discuss and identify common spelling errors, helping children become more aware of spelling patterns and develop greater independence when checking their own written work.
