Children are presented with a New Year themed piece of writing containing 10 spelling mistakes. Their task is to carefully read the text, identify each incorrect spelling and write the correct version. This encourages children to read closely and develop the important skill of recognising and correcting spelling errors.

All 10 spelling mistakes are taken from the Year 5 and 6 statutory spelling list, providing pupils with an opportunity to practise these important words in context. By identifying mistakes within a complete piece of writing, children can develop a greater awareness of spelling patterns and become more confident at spotting words that do not look or sound correct.
