Help children develop their understanding of odd and even numbers with this practical shapes sorting maths activity. Children use the quantities represented by the shapes to identify whether each number is odd or even. Ask children to cut out the shapes and sort them onto the odd or even table. They can also write the number that matches each shape, helping them make connections between a visual quantity and its corresponding numeral. The activity provides a simple and practical way for children to practise recognising odd and even numbers while developing their number sense, counting skills and mathematical reasoning. Encourage children to explain how they know whether each shape represents an odd or even number. Each child will need an odd and even sorting table and half of the shape resource sheet. The activity can be completed independently or used with adult support as part of a small-group maths session. For a reusable resource, laminate the tables and shapes before cutting them out. The children can then repeatedly sort the shapes during a focus group activity or within continuous provision, providing opportunities for repeated practice and consolidation. Children can practise: Recognising odd and even numbers Counting quantities accurately Matching quantities to numerals Sorting numbers into odd and even groups Developing number sense and mathematical reasoning Using mathematical language such as odd, even, equal and pair Explaining how they know whether a number is odd or even Extend the activity by asking children to predict whether a number will be odd or even before counting, or challenge them to explain what happens when one is added to an odd or even number. This versatile resource is ideal for KS1 maths, small-group teaching, independent activities and continuous provision. The practical sorting element helps children build confidence with odd and even numbers in an engaging, hands-on way.
This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
