About this resource

Make Year 4 fractions practice engaging with this Remembrance Day themed Poppy Fractions maths activity. Using visual poppy images, children develop their understanding of fractions through a range of activities designed to encourage both mathematical fluency and reasoning. Children identify fractions of groups, shade given fractions, work out what fraction of a group is not shaded and identify mistakes in fraction representations. The resource also provides opportunities for children to work with equivalent fractions and compare fractions, helping to develop their understanding of fractions as numbers and parts of a whole. The visual poppy theme makes this a particularly engaging Remembrance Day maths activity for Year 4, while the varied questions provide opportunities for children to explain their thinking and apply their fraction knowledge rather than simply recalling facts. This resource is ideal for use during a Remembrance Day maths lesson, as independent practice, morning work, homework, early finisher work or as part of a wider fractions unit. It can also be used alongside other Remembrance Day activities to provide a meaningful cross-curricular link. This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
