Make algebra engaging this spring with this fun and visual Year 6 maths activity. Pupils develop their understanding of algebra by solving simple equations using spring-themed symbols, including π·, π, and π. The resource allows children to practise working with unknowns, including decimal values to one decimal place, and apply their knowledge to solve multi-step problems. The activity includes five questions: the first three involve finding the value of each symbol through one- and two-step equations, while the final two require pupils to use these known values to solve new equations. This sequencing encourages logical reasoning and builds confidence in applying prior solutions to more complex problems. Suitable for independent work, paired activities, or maths carousel stations, the resource includes answer sheets for easy marking and discussion of strategies. It can also be differentiated to support learners by providing one known symbol value, or challenged by having pupils create their own symbol equations or solve unknowns on both sides. The spring-themed symbols make algebra visual, fun, and memorable while reinforcing key Year 6 algebra skills.
This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
Our own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.
