About this resource

Help children develop their spelling, proofreading and editing skills with this engaging New Year themed spelling corrections activity. Designed for upper Key Stage 2 learners, this resource provides purposeful practice with Year 5 and 6 statutory spellings while encouraging children to identify and correct spelling mistakes within a piece of themed writing. Children are presented with a New Year themed piece of writing containing 10 spelling mistakes. Their task is to carefully read the text, identify each incorrect spelling and write the correct version. This encourages children to read closely and develop the important skill of recognising and correcting spelling errors. All 10 spelling mistakes are taken from the Year 5 and 6 statutory spelling list, providing pupils with an opportunity to practise these important words in context. By identifying mistakes within a complete piece of writing, children can develop a greater awareness of spelling patterns and become more confident at spotting words that do not look or sound correct. The activity also supports children's ability to proofread and edit their own writing. Identifying common spelling errors is an important part of becoming an independent writer, and this resource provides a simple and engaging way to practise these skills. The New Year theme makes this activity particularly suitable for the beginning of the spring term, providing a relevant context for spelling and SPaG practice following the Christmas holidays. This resource can be used as part of a SPaG or English lesson, as an independent spelling task, for early finishers or as a homework activity. This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
