About this resource

Make place value more exciting with this engaging Bonfire Night-themed Year 6 maths activity! Fireworks Place Value gives pupils the opportunity to develop and consolidate their understanding of numbers up to 10,000,000 through a series of fun firework-themed challenges. Designed to support the Year 6 maths curriculum, this resource focuses on key place value skills while encouraging pupils to apply their knowledge to reasoning and problem-solving activities. Pupils will practise: Reading and writing numbers up to 10,000,000 in numerals and words. Identifying the value of each digit within a number. Applying their understanding of place value to solve problems. Using clues to solve Mystery Firework challenges. Developing their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Explaining and justifying their answers. The Mystery Firework challenges provide an opportunity for pupils to think carefully about the position and value of digits rather than simply recalling facts. Some challenges can also have multiple possible answers, encouraging pupils to explain their reasoning and find alternative solutions. This resource is ideal for use as a Year 6 place value worksheet, a Bonfire Night maths activity, a classroom starter, independent practice, early-finisher task or guided maths activity. It can also be used as part of a wider lesson on place value and numbers up to 10 million. The challenges can be differentiated by selecting questions that are appropriate for your pupils, making this a flexible resource for whole-class teaching, small-group work or independent learning. Perfect for Bonfire Night / 5th November, this resource combines a seasonal theme with purposeful maths practice, helping pupils develop confidence with large numbers in an engaging and memorable way. Skills covered: Year 6 place value, numbers to 10,000,000, reading and writing numbers, digit value, mathematical reasoning and problem solving.Read more

  • PDFActivity

This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Our own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.
