Compare Numbers – Traditional Tales

Help children develop their understanding of comparing quantities with this versatile set of maths cards. Children choose two cards and compare the number of items, identifying which has more, fewer or the same amount. The cards can also be used for counting and subitising practice. Ideal for Early Years and KS1 maths.

About this resource

Support children to develop their understanding of comparing quantities with this versatile set of maths cards. Children compare the number of items shown on different cards and use mathematical language to describe which quantity is greater, smaller or the same. To use the resource, simply laminate and cut out the cards. Ask children to choose two cards and compare the number of items shown on each. Encourage them to answer questions such as “Which card has more?” and “Which card has fewer?” This activity provides an excellent opportunity for children to develop their understanding of number and quantity, while also building confidence using mathematical comparison language. Encourage children to answer in complete sentences, such as “There are more…”, “There are fewer…” or “There are the same amount of…”. This helps children explain their mathematical thinking as well as identify differences between quantities. The cards are ideal for Early Years and KS1 maths and can be used in a range of settings, including whole-class teaching, small-group activities, independent learning, continuous provision and maths interventions. Children can practise: Comparing quantities Identifying which group has more Identifying which group has fewer Recognising when quantities are the same Developing early number sense Using mathematical comparison language Explaining their mathematical thinking Counting objects accurately Developing subitising skills Connecting quantities with mathematical language The cards can also be used for additional counting and subitising practice, making them a flexible resource that can be revisited for different areas of early maths learning. For additional practical learning, children could recreate the quantities using counters or other manipulatives before comparing them. This can help children make connections between visual representations, quantities and mathematical vocabulary. This comparing quantities maths resource provides a simple, practical wRead more

This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
