Support children to develop their early counting, number writing and comparing quantities skills with this engaging animal counting worksheet. Children are encouraged to count each group of animals carefully, write the corresponding number underneath and then compare the two quantities. After counting the animals, children identify which group has more and circle the correct number. Encourage children to use the mathematical language ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ as they explain and compare the quantities. This worksheet provides a simple and effective way to practise accurate counting while helping children make connections between quantities and written numerals. It also introduces and reinforces the important early maths concept of comparing groups and numbers. Children can practise: Counting objects accurately Recognising quantities Writing numbers and numerals Matching quantities to numbers Comparing two groups of objects Identifying which number is more Understanding and using the language more and fewer Developing early number sense and mathematical reasoning This resource is ideal for Early Years and KS1 maths and can be used as an independent activity, small-group task, maths intervention or follow-up activity after practical counting and comparison work. For additional challenge, encourage children to explain how they know which group has more or fewer and to compare the quantities using mathematical language. The worksheet can also be used alongside practical manipulatives, allowing children to recreate the animal groups and physically compare the quantities before completing the written activity. A useful resource for reinforcing counting and number comparison, this worksheet helps children develop confidence with numbers while building their understanding of quantity and mathematical vocabulary.
This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
