About this resource

This EYFS 3D Shape Matching resource supports young children in recognising and naming common 3D shapes by linking them to familiar everyday toys. Children look closely at each toy and match it to its corresponding 3D shape name. This hands-on activity helps children make meaningful real-world connections, strengthening early mathematical understanding through play. Ideal for Reception and Nursery settings, the activity encourages children to use mathematical vocabulary, describe shapes, and talk about the features they notice. It can be used as a whole-class carpet activity, in small groups, or as an independent challenge during continuous provision. Teachers can laminate the cards for repeated use or use the resource as part of a maths area focused on shape, space, and measure. This resource aligns with EYFS goals by supporting shape recognition, visual discrimination, language development, and critical thinking. Matching toys to 3D shapes builds children’s confidence in identifying properties such as faces, edges, and curves, while promoting play-based learning that feels both meaningful and engaging.Read more

This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
