The activities encourage children to explore 2027 in a range of different mathematical contexts, helping them to develop their understanding of place value, number relationships and problem-solving. Children will explore 2027 through activities including: 🔢 Number and place value – Write 2027 in words and explore the value of each digit. 🧱 Base 10 – Represent 2027 using Base 10 to develop understanding of thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. 🔴 Place value counters – Draw place value counters to represent 2027 and identify the value of each digit. ✖️ Multiples – Investigate whether 2027 is a multiple of 5 and explain how they know. ➕ Addition – Add 2027 to different numbers, including 2026 and 2028. ➖ Subtraction – Subtract 2027 from the year in which the child was born, providing an opportunity to apply calculation skills to a personal context. 📏 Number lines – Complete a number line involving years around 2027. ⚖️ Measurement and scales – Use a scale to consider where 2,027g would be located and explain the reasoning behind the answer. 💷 Money – Find different ways of making £20.27 using coins and notes and consider whether there is more than one possibility. 🌡️ Temperature – Use a real-world temperature problem involving Spain and the UK to explore a difference of 11°C.
