About this resource

Flash Plates 1 to 3: quick-look plates for whole-class flashing. Twelve large round plates showing 1, 2 or 3 dots in different sizes, colours and arrangements. Flash them for a moment at group time so children recognise the amount without counting. What’s included: • Teacher guide with Development Matters links. • 12 flash plates showing 1, 2 and 3 dots. Ideas for using it: • Flash and show: Flash a plate for two seconds. Children show the amount on fingers. • Grow, show, throw: Grow fingers one by one, then show quickly, then throw them. • Which has more? Flash two plates. Which has more? Which has fewer? • Hidden plate: Hide a plate behind your back and reveal it slowly. Linked to Development Matters (three and four-year-olds): • Fast recognition of up to 3 objects, without having to count them individually (‘subitising’). • Show ‘finger numbers’ up to 5. • Compare quantities using language: ‘more than’, ‘fewer than’. • Use a wider range of vocabulary. Supplied as a ready-to-print PDF (A4 landscape). Print, laminate and reuse all year.Read more

What you get, one file

  • PDFActivity

This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
