Ideas for using it: • Sing and place: Sing the song and put a mouse on each hole. • Make your own 3: Put 3 mice anywhere on the empty cheese. Is it still 3? • Hide a mouse: Cover your eyes while an adult hides one. How many now? • Quick look: An adult places 1, 2 or 3 mice and covers them quickly. How many? Linked to Development Matters (three and four-year-olds): • Fast recognition of up to 3 objects, without having to count them individually (‘subitising’). • Link numerals and amounts: for example, showing the right number of objects to match the numeral, up to 5. • Remember and sing entire songs. • Show ‘finger numbers’ up to 5.
