Number Bonds to 10 – Space

Help children learn number bonds to 10 with this engaging planets and rockets tens frame activity. Children count the pictures to complete number sentences and develop their understanding of number composition and part-part-whole relationships. Extend the learning with blank tens frames and double-sided counters.

About this resource

Help children develop their understanding of number bonds to 10 with this engaging planets and rockets tens frame maths activity. Children use the visual representations to explore how two parts can combine to make the whole number 10. The number bonds are presented using tens frames, providing a clear visual representation of number composition. Children are asked to count the planets and rockets carefully and use the quantities shown to complete the corresponding number sentences. Using tens frames helps children see the relationship between the two parts and the whole. Rather than simply recalling number bonds, children can use the visual representations to understand how different quantities combine to make 10. This resource is ideal for Early Years and KS1 and can be used during whole-class maths lessons, small-group activities, focus groups, independent learning or continuous provision. The space-themed context provides an engaging way for children to practise and investigate important early maths concepts. Children can practise: Learning number bonds to 10 Recognising quantities within 10 Counting planets and rockets accurately Understanding number composition Exploring part-part-whole relationships Using tens frames to represent numbers Completing number sentences Developing early addition skills Recognising patterns in number bonds Developing mathematical reasoning and number sense Encourage children to count the planets and rockets carefully before completing each number sentence. Ask questions such as “How many planets can you see?”, “How many rockets are there?” and “How many do they make altogether?” For additional practical learning, provide children with blank tens frames and double-sided counters as part of classroom provision. Children can use the counters to investigate different ways of making 10, physically changing the two parts and recording the number bonds they discover. You could also encourage children to explain their findings using mathemRead more

This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
