About this resource

Make early phonics practice fun with this simple and engaging Winter themed EYFS codebreaker activity! This resource gives young children the opportunity to practise letter formation and beginning reading skills while solving a fun winter-themed code. Children use pictures and symbols to work out which letter each picture represents. They then write the corresponding letters underneath the pictures to reveal a selection of simple CVC words. The activity is designed for children in EYFS who are confident forming single letters and are beginning to read CVC words. It provides a gentle way for children to practise recognising letters, making links between sounds and letters, and blending simple words. Children are encouraged to look carefully at each picture, identify the corresponding letter and record it in the correct place. Once they have completed the code, they can use their phonics knowledge to read the words they have discovered. This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.
