About this resource

Oh no! Someone has stolen all the Halloween sweets, and someone has knocked over the witch's cauldron. Who did it? In these two Halloween code breakers for Year 1, children answer four questions, find each answer in the code and write down its letter. The letters help them work out the thief's name. In one code breaker there is an extra letter they do not need, and in the other one letter is missing, so children must think about which suspect it could be. The questions are short number sentences, and the suspects have simple names such as Cat, Bat and Ghost, so reading is kept to a minimum. What's included: Two code breakers: Who Stole the Sweets? and Who Spilled the Potion? A teacher information page for each code breaker Full answer pages Editable PowerPoint and ready-to-print PDF Skills covered: Number bonds within 20 Adding and subtracting within 20 1 more and 1 less Matching numbers to a code Ideal for a Halloween maths lesson, the last week before half term, early finishers, partner work or a spooky starter.Read more
