About this resource

This Year 1 Transition “Pieces of Me” Puzzle is a meaningful and engaging activity designed to support children as they move into a new class or year group. It encourages pupils to reflect on themselves and share key information in a simple, child-friendly format. Using a jigsaw-style template, children complete puzzle pieces with prompts such as their favourites, family, interests and strengths. They can respond through drawing, writing, or a combination of both, making this resource highly accessible and adaptable for a range of abilities. The activity is carefully differentiated with three versions (6, 9 and 12 pieces), allowing you to tailor the level of challenge: Fewer pieces for younger learners or those needing a reduced cognitive load More pieces to promote deeper thinking, speaking and language development This resource is ideal for supporting transition into Year 1 or between classes, helping teachers to get to know their pupils while giving children a chance to express themselves in a relaxed and creative way. Completed puzzles can be: Shared with a new teacher to support a smooth transition Used as a speaking and listening activity Displayed in the classroom to build a sense of belonging Used as part of PSHE or transition sessions What’s included: “Pieces of Me” puzzle templates (6, 9 and 12 pieces) Child-friendly prompts Flexible use for drawing and/or writing Perfect for: Year 1 transition, KS1 PSHE, getting to know you activities, classroom community building, speaking and listening, and early writing tasks.Read more

What you get, one file

  • PDFActivity

This pack is print and go. Our catalogue does not list an editable copy of it, so none is offered here rather than promising a file nobody has opened. Page counts are not printed either, because we do not publish them and a guessed number is worse than none.

★★★ Differentiated three ways
  • Working towardsScaffolded, with the model or the bar already drawn.
  • Working withinThe expected standard for the year group.
  • Greater depthReasoning and explaining, not just more of the same.

Our own system, with the star count repeated in every worksheet header so a child can be handed the right sheet without a word.
