About this resource

Support reading, phonics, spelling and vocabulary development with this engaging Remembrance themed Year 1 wordsearch. Designed with young learners in mind, this activity is ideal for Year 1 children and can be used during phonics lessons, independent literacy work, continuous provision or as a useful activity for early finishers. The wordsearch contains a carefully selected range of Remembrance-related vocabulary that is suitable for Year 1 learners. The words provide children with an opportunity to practise recognising and reading themed vocabulary while developing their confidence with spelling and word recognition. Some of the words may not yet be fully decodable using children's current phonics knowledge, so supporting pictures are included to help children recognise, understand and identify the vocabulary independently. These visual prompts make the activity accessible to children with a range of reading abilities. All words are hidden horizontally and vertically and appear in the forward direction, making the wordsearch straightforward for young learners to complete.
